Your first meeting
Before the meeting, click the MeetCap icon in the menu bar, then Start recording. When it ends, click Stop. MeetCap processes the recording and tells you when the minutes are ready.
Start recording
Section titled “Start recording”- Click the MeetCap icon in the menu bar.
- Enter a meeting title if you like. You can also leave it blank and change it later.
- Click Start recording.
MeetCap records your microphone and all audio on this computer, whichever app or browser tab the meeting is in. The menu bar icon changes to a dot and the time recorded, and a notification says Recording.
To leave your microphone out of one meeting, click the microphone button to the left of Start recording first. Your microphone is included again in the next meeting.
Other ways to start:
- Press ⌥⌘R. You can change the shortcut in Settings › General.
- Right-click the menu bar icon and choose Start Recording.
- In the meeting window, click New, then Start Recording.
- Tell your agent “Record this meeting”. See Use MeetCap with your agent.
- Set a schedule. See Schedule a recording.
If MeetCap hasn’t asked for its two permissions yet, it asks first, then starts. If one of them is missing, it records what it can and tells you which part it can’t record and where to turn it on.
During the meeting
Section titled “During the meeting”Captions appear as people speak, and a summary arrives every 5 minutes; you can change how often in Settings › Minutes. To keep them on screen over other windows, click the pin button (Keep on top) in the menu bar popover. You can also pause, turn off your microphone, or name a speaker; see Record and pause a meeting and Name and recognize speakers.
Click Stop in the menu bar popover. There’s no confirmation. You can also press ⌥⌘R again or tell your agent to stop.
MeetCap then processes the meeting: it saves the recording, identifies speakers, transcribes the whole recording again, remembers named voices, and writes the transcript. It shows each step and about how long is left. You can close the window, and MeetCap keeps working.
When it’s done, a notification tells you:
- Minutes ready, if MeetCap writes the minutes (Your own API key or Your agent, run by MeetCap). It shows the meeting title, how many next steps there are, and how many speakers still have no name. Click it to open the meeting.
- Transcript ready, if you chose Your agent, when you ask it. Ask your agent for the minutes.
Read the minutes
Section titled “Read the minutes”Click All meetings in the menu bar popover. The minutes have three parts: Executive summary, Recap, and Next steps. Each point links to the line it came from, and one click plays it back. The transcript and the recording are there too, and you can export the meeting to share it.
