Name and recognize speakers
MeetCap tells the speakers in a meeting apart and calls them Speaker 1, Speaker 2, and so on. When you name a speaker, MeetCap remembers their voice and shows their name in later meetings.
Name a speaker during a meeting
Section titled “Name a speaker during a meeting”- In the captions, click Name next to the speaker.
- Type a name, or choose someone MeetCap already knows. They’re marked Known voice.
- Click Name.
The name replaces the speaker’s number everywhere in the meeting.
Name speakers after a meeting
Section titled “Name speakers after a meeting”At the top of the meeting window, MeetCap says how many speakers have no name yet. Click Name, then enter a name. The minutes and the transcript change too.
MeetCap may also suggest a name from what was said, for example “Speaker 2 may be Mark Chen (based on 3 lines)”. Click Confirm to use it, or Rename to enter another name.
Correct a name or merge two speakers
Section titled “Correct a name or merge two speakers”If a speaker has the wrong name, or one person shows up as two speakers:
- In the transcript, click the speaker’s name.
- Enter the correct name, then click Rename.
This changes the name in this meeting only, and MeetCap remembers the voice under the new name. To merge two speakers into one person, give them the same name.
How MeetCap remembers a voice
Section titled “How MeetCap remembers a voice”To remember a person’s voice, MeetCap needs about 30 seconds of their clear speech in that meeting. If they said less, the name still changes, but the voice isn’t remembered. To try again, name them in a later meeting.
If you name someone during the meeting, MeetCap remembers their voice after the meeting ends. Voices are kept in your meeting library, so other Macs that use the same library recognize them too.
Each time MeetCap remembers a new voice, it asks you to let that person know. For what is kept and where, see Speakers and voices.
Rename or forget someone MeetCap knows
Section titled “Rename or forget someone MeetCap knows”Settings › People lists everyone whose voice MeetCap remembers.
- Rename someone: Click Rename, enter the new name, then click Rename. The name also changes in past meetings.
- Merge two people: Rename one person to the other’s name, then click Merge. Both voices are kept under that name. You can’t undo a merge.
- Forget someone: Click Delete, then click Delete again. MeetCap deletes their voice and stops recognizing them. Their name stays in past meetings.
Limits
Section titled “Limits”MeetCap tells apart up to 8 speakers through the microphone and up to 8 in all audio on this computer. If more people speak, the meeting window says so, and each extra person is counted as one of the speakers already listed.
A line MeetCap couldn’t match to anyone is marked Unknown speaker.
