Files in the cloud

Your meeting library can be in iCloud Drive or OneDrive. Both can keep a file only in the cloud and download it when something opens it. MeetCap downloads such a file itself before reading it, so usually you don’t notice. Recordings aren’t in the library. They stay on this computer and don’t sync.

To put your library in iCloud Drive or OneDrive, see Move your meeting library.

MeetCap waits as long as the download makes progress. If nothing arrives for 2 minutes, it stops and tells you. To keep the file on this computer:

  1. In Finder, right-click the file or folder.
  2. In iCloud Drive, choose Keep Downloaded, or Download Now if the menu doesn’t have it. In OneDrive, choose Always Keep on This Device.
  3. Wait until the file has downloaded, then try again.

If it still doesn’t download, check that you’re online and that iCloud Drive or OneDrive isn’t paused.

When you transcribe a recording that is still in the cloud, MeetCap downloads it first and shows how much has arrived. Transcription starts when the whole file is on this computer. MeetCap doesn’t change the original file.

If the download stops, MeetCap says “This file couldn’t be downloaded from the cloud.” Keep the file on this computer as shown above, then transcribe it again. See Transcribe a recording.

To avoid waiting for downloads, keep the library folder downloaded. In Finder, right-click the library folder and choose the same item as above.

If Optimize Mac Storage is on, macOS can move files you haven’t opened in a while to iCloud when it needs space. Keeping the folder downloaded stops this for your library.

Your meetings, the people MeetCap knows, and your glossary sync with the library. Recordings don’t. When you open a meeting recorded on another computer, MeetCap says that the recording is on that computer and can’t be played here. See Recordings stay on your computer.
