Record and pause a meeting
Click Start recording before the meeting and Stop when it ends. In between, you can pause, turn off your microphone, and keep the captions on top of other windows.
Start recording
Section titled “Start recording”- Click the MeetCap icon in the menu bar.
- Enter a meeting title, or leave it blank and change it later.
- Click Start recording.
MeetCap records your microphone and all audio on this computer. The menu bar icon changes to a dot and the time recorded. For other ways to start, see Your first meeting.
Leave out your microphone
Section titled “Leave out your microphone”Before you start, click the microphone button to the left of Start recording. MeetCap then records all audio on this computer, without your microphone.
This applies to one meeting. The next one records your microphone again, and so do meetings started with ⌥⌘R or by a schedule.
Pause and resume
Section titled “Pause and resume”Pause during a break, or for part of the meeting you don’t want recorded.
- Click Pause in the menu bar popover or the meeting window. In the floating window, click the pause button.
- To continue, click Resume. In the floating window, click the red dot.
While the meeting is paused, MeetCap stops recording your microphone and all audio on this computer. No captions or summaries appear. The menu bar icon shows two bars, and the timer stops.
The paused part doesn’t count toward the meeting’s duration. You can still stop a paused meeting, and a scheduled recording still stops at its set time.
Turn off your microphone during a meeting
Section titled “Turn off your microphone during a meeting”In the meeting window, click Turn off microphone. In the menu bar popover and the floating window, click the microphone button.
MeetCap stops recording your side, but your meeting app keeps using the microphone, so the other side still hears you. To record your side again, click Turn on microphone.
If you turn off the microphone while the meeting is paused, it stays off when you resume.
Keep the captions on top
Section titled “Keep the captions on top”In the menu bar popover, click the pin button (Keep on top). The popover becomes a small window that floats over other windows. It shows the time recorded, the meeting title, the latest summary, and the captions.
The floating window has its own microphone, pause, and stop buttons. To stop keeping it on top, click the crossed-out pin button (Don’t keep on top).
To see captions and summaries side by side in a larger window, click the double-arrow button (Open in window) in the menu bar popover. Each button shows its name when you hold the pointer over it.
Stop recording
Section titled “Stop recording”Click Stop in the menu bar popover, the meeting window, or the floating window. You can also press ⌥⌘R, or right-click the menu bar icon and choose Stop Recording.
MeetCap then finishes up the transcript. See Your first meeting for what happens next.
If a permission is missing
Section titled “If a permission is missing”If MeetCap isn’t allowed to use the microphone or record system audio, it records the part it can and tells you which part it can’t. Turn on the missing permission in System Settings › Privacy & Security. MeetCap records that part from then on.
If both permissions are missing, recording doesn’t start. See Permissions.
From Terminal
Section titled “From Terminal”meetcap start --title "Weekly sync"meetcap pausemeetcap resumemeetcap mic offmeetcap mic onmeetcap stopEach command after start works on the meeting being recorded.
- To leave out your microphone, run
meetcap start --source system. - To stop recording automatically after 90 minutes, run
