FAQ
Is MeetCap free?
Section titled “Is MeetCap free?”Everything MeetCap does on your computer is free, with no time limits, no locked features, and no account. The minutes are written by the AI you choose, and you pay its provider at its usual rates. MeetCap doesn’t add any charges. See Ways to write minutes, and your privacy.
If you choose This computer, a local model on this computer writes the minutes, and there’s nothing to pay.
What leaves my computer?
Section titled “What leaves my computer?”Recordings never leave this computer. To write summaries and minutes, MeetCap sends the transcript text to the AI you chose, and nowhere else. MeetCap sends nothing to us unless you send us a problem report. It has no account or analytics, and crashes are never reported automatically. For the details, see the privacy notice.
If you choose This computer for summaries and minutes, the transcript text stays on this computer too. See This computer.
Where are my transcripts and minutes?
Section titled “Where are my transcripts and minutes?”They’re in your meeting library, a folder that you choose during setup. By default, it’s iCloud Drive › MeetCap, or iCloud Drive › Obsidian › MeetCap on a Mac that syncs Obsidian with iCloud. If the Mac doesn’t use iCloud Drive, the default is Documents › MeetCap. Each meeting’s notes and transcript are Markdown files that Obsidian and any agent can open. Recordings are kept separately, on this computer. See Your meeting library and Recordings stay on your computer.
Which languages does MeetCap understand?
Section titled “Which languages does MeetCap understand?”MeetCap transcribes English and Chinese, including meetings that switch between them mid-sentence. Transcripts stay in the language spoken. The app and the minutes are in English or Chinese, and you can also get a meeting’s minutes in the other language. Other languages and dialects aren’t supported. See Write minutes and change their language.
How accurate is it?
Section titled “How accurate is it?”Speech is recognized on this computer, and MeetCap transcribes the whole recording a second time when the meeting ends. Before the minutes are written, the AI fixes misheard names and terms with the help of your glossary. If you choose This computer, the local model fixes fewer of them. To help with your team’s names and terms, add them to the glossary. See Get names and terms right with the glossary.
Lines that may be misheard have a dashed underline. Each point in the minutes links to the line it came from, and one click plays it back. Before you forward the minutes or use them as a record, check them against the transcript.
Who writes the minutes, and where?
Section titled “Who writes the minutes, and where?”An AI that you choose writes them. You choose it in Settings › Minutes:
- Your own API key. MeetCap sends the text to the endpoint you entered, such as the Claude API or an OpenAI-compatible service.
- Your agent, run by MeetCap. After each meeting, MeetCap runs an agent on this computer, such as Claude Code, Codex, or Qoder.
- Your agent, when you ask it. You ask your agent in a chat, and it writes them. MeetCap never starts the agent.
- This computer. A local model writes them, and the transcript text never leaves this computer.
MeetCap account isn’t available yet. Recording and speech recognition always stay on this computer. See Write minutes and change their language.
Will other people know I’m recording?
Section titled “Will other people know I’m recording?”MeetCap doesn’t join the call and shows nothing to the other people in it. It records your microphone and all audio on this computer. Before you record, tell the people in the meeting and get any consent that the law where you are requires. See section 5 of the Terms of Use.
Does MeetCap work offline?
Section titled “Does MeetCap work offline?”Recording, captions, and the transcript work without an internet connection. Summaries and minutes need the AI you chose. If you use your own API key, summaries catch up once you’re back online. You can write the minutes then too. If you choose This computer, the local model writes summaries and minutes without an internet connection once it’s downloaded.
Is there a Windows or iPhone version?
Section titled “Is there a Windows or iPhone version?”MeetCap for Mac is available now, and Windows and iPhone versions are coming soon. The Mac version requires macOS 14.2 or later and runs on Macs with Apple silicon or an Intel processor.
What happens to my meetings if I uninstall?
Section titled “What happens to my meetings if I uninstall?”They stay in your meeting library until you delete them, and you can still open them. See Uninstall MeetCap.
