Recordings stay on your computer
MeetCap keeps each recording only on the computer that recorded it. It doesn’t upload recordings, and they don’t sync with your meeting library. Speech recognition also runs on this computer, so the sound of your meetings never leaves it.
What can leave this computer is text. To write summaries and minutes, MeetCap sends the transcript text to the AI you choose; see Ways to write minutes, and your privacy. For the full details, see the privacy notice.
Where recordings are kept
Section titled “Where recordings are kept”MeetCap keeps recordings in ~/Library/Application Support/MeetCap/audio, one folder for each meeting. You can’t choose another folder. The meeting folder in your library lists the recording’s files but doesn’t contain them.
A meeting recorded from the microphone and all audio on this computer takes about 230 MB an hour. If less than 2 GB is free, MeetCap doesn’t start recording. If less than 500 MB is left during a meeting, it stops and saves what it recorded.
When you transcribe a recording you already have, MeetCap doesn’t copy the file. It leaves the original where it is and never deletes it.
What you can do on another Mac
Section titled “What you can do on another Mac”If your library syncs to another Mac, that Mac has the text of every meeting but not the recordings. There you can:
- Read the minutes, the transcript, and the summaries.
- Name speakers and rename the meeting.
- Get new minutes, or minutes in the other language.
- Export the meeting.
To play a meeting back, or to have MeetCap remember a speaker’s voice from it, use the Mac that recorded it.
How long recordings are kept
Section titled “How long recordings are kept”By default, MeetCap keeps recordings until you remove them. A transcript and minutes don’t need the recording. When a recording is removed, the meeting stays complete, but you can’t play it back.
- Keep recordings for. In Settings › Storage, choose 1 month, 3 months, or 6 months. MeetCap then removes older recordings after each meeting, without asking. When you change the setting, it removes any that are already too old and tells you how much space that freed.
- Clear all recordings. In Settings › Storage, click Clear all recordings. MeetCap first shows how many meetings, how much space, and the dates of the earliest and latest recordings. It removes nothing until you confirm.
- Delete a meeting. In the meeting list, right-click the meeting and choose Delete. MeetCap moves the meeting and its recording on this computer to the Trash.
Each computer removes only the recordings it made. MeetCap keeps a recording that it still needs, for example while the meeting is being recorded, or to finish its transcript or remember a voice. Voices you named stay in People.
